What's New in ShipStation?

We want to keep you up to date as we release new features and update ShipStation's functionality. This release information focuses on what's new and what's changed in ShipStation's new layout. To review a summary of how the new layout differs from ShipStation Legacy, please review the Moving from ShipStation Legacy to the New Layout help article.

New Features

We are excited to show you the new features ShipStation has to offer! If you'd like to take advantage of these new features but are still using the ShipStation Legacy interface, please contact us to let us know that you'd like to migrate to the new ShipStation experience.

Display Options: Choose Your Login Page

In your ShipStation account settings, you can now choose which page you want to display when you log in to the app. This feature was previously only available in the Legacy Layout.

To choose the page your account opens with:

  1. Go to the General Preferences tab.

  2. Select the page from the Log in directly to drop-down menu.

  3. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Hotkeys & Barcode Scan Actions Reports

The following Hotkeys & Barcode Scan Actions reports are now available in the new layout of ShipStation:

  • Hotkey Reference Sheet

  • Barcode Scan Action Report

  • Barcode Scan Action Quick Reference Sheet

These reports detail available keyboard commands (“hotkeys”) and scannable barcodes that can help you perform certain actions in ShipStation faster including importing your orders, printing documents, and creating labels.

To generate these sheets, go to Insights > Reports and select one of the above from the Hotkey & Barcode Scan Actions section.

Updated Functionality

We've enhanced several features you may already be using in ShipStation. These enhancements range from simple interface design (as with the Rate Calculator) to new processes to accomplish old tasks (as with splitting and combining orders).

Read through the updates to get an idea of what this updated functionality includes. Each section will include a link to the full documentation about that feature, in case you want to learn all the details.

Create Labels for On Hold Orders

In the new ShipStation layout, you no longer have to manually remove an order from the On Hold status to ship it. Click the Create + Print Label button to create a label for the On Hold order and move it to the Shipped status.

You can now also move an On Hold order back to Awaiting Shipment by selecting the order and clicking the new Remove Hold button.

Scan to View Barcode in Order Summary

In the new ShipStation layout, you can now add a Scan to View barcode to your Order Summaries in your Document Options settings.

Sorting in the Shipments Grid

You can now sort the Shipments grid by the following columns in the new ShipStation layout:

  • Batch (Batch #)

  • Carrier

  • City

  • Confirmation (Shipment confirmation type)

  • Package

  • Recipient

January and February 2022 Releases

The following updates were released in January and February 2022.

New Insights Pages

We have updated the design of our Insights Pages, which provide you with data visualizations about your orders, shipments, customers, and more!

The following Insights Pages have been updated:

  • Overview

  • Operations

  • Customer Engagement

  • Sales Trends

  • Customer Overview

  • Product Highlights

See our guide to the Insights Pages for more details.

Restore Shipped Orders to Awaiting Shipment

If you need to create labels for orders that are already in the Shipped status, you can now restore these orders to the Awaiting Shipment status from the Orders page.

To restore your order(s), go to the Shipped section of the Orders page. Select the order(s) you want to move back to Awaiting Shipment, then click the Restore button.

Box highlights the Restore button in the Actions bar on the Orders page

See the Restore an Order to Awaiting Shipment section of our Reship an Order guide for more details.

Combine Orders That Do Not Include Items

You can now combine orders that do not include items into a single shipment. This is useful if the line items in an order have a quantity of 0, but you still need to combine the order with another for the same recipient.

For example: If your customer placed an order on your ecommerce site and then canceled part of that order, the quantity of the canceled order items would be updated to 0 in ShipStation. If the customer places a new order, you can now combine the new order with the old order without error.

See our Combine Shipments guide for more information on combining orders.

DHL eCommerce Ancillary Endorsements

When you are configuring the shipment details of an order, our DHL eCommerce integration now allows you to select the following ancillary endorsements on a per-shipment basis under Other Shipping Options:

  • Forward Service Requested

  • Change Service Requested

  • Return Service Requested

Export Return Shipments

You can now export your return records from the Returns page in the Shipments tab. Previously, this feature was only available in the Legacy Layout.

Click the Export button at the top of the Returns page to download a CSV file of your return shipments.
